BaptismsBaptism is the foundational sacrament in which we are reborn in Christ and made members of his Body, the Church. In baptism, God calls us by name, frees us from sin, and makes us part of the family of faith. Baptism is the sacrament that begins a lifelong friendship with Jesus and is the gateway to the other sacraments.
The Church asks that parents arrange to have their infants baptized as soon as reasonably possible after birth, ideally within the first weeks of the child's life (canon 867), and not to delay this sacrament beyond a few months. The godfather and godmother (or there can be just one baptismal sponsor, or even no sponsor if a qualified person is not available) are to be Catholics who have already received the sacraments of Confirmation and Communion, are living a faithful Christian life, and are regularly participating in the Eucharist. It is also possible to have one Catholic godmother or godfather and a second person baptized in a non-Catholic church who can serve as an official "Christian witness." We offer a special pre-baptismal program to help parents appreciate this sacrament and better fulfill their vocations as Christian fathers and mothers. It is often easier for parents to take part in this program even before the birth of their child. The parish bulletin contains information about the dates and times of these programs. |

Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Perpetual Help,
Peace and blessings to you and your loved ones. As I am writing to you for the first time as your spiritual leader and administrator, I do so with a heart filled with gratitude and hope. I am truly thankful to God for bringing me to this parish and for the gift of serving this community of faith here in Santa Clarita. I am grateful as well for the trust placed in me by our Archdiocese and for the kindness and welcome many of you have already shown. Beginning a new pastoral assignment is always a sacred moment. It is a time of listening, learning, and entrusting the future to the Lord. I come to you aware that this parish is not merely a place, but a living family—shaped by years of prayer, dedication, and generous service. I am thankful to God for Msgr. Craig, Fr. Enrique, and Fr. Emmanuel, for the staff, and parishioners who have faithfully nurtured this community and whose love for the Church continues to bear fruit. As your leader, my sincere desire is to walk with you in faith, to rejoice with you in moments of joy, to support you in times of challenge, and to help nurture a parish where all feel welcomed, known, and loved. I look forward to getting to know you personally: your families, your stories, your hopes for the parish, and the many ways you serve one another. Together, I pray that we may continue to grow closer to Christ and deepen our life as a parish rooted in prayer, charity, and trust in God. I ask for your prayers as I begin this journey with you, and I promise you my own prayers in return. May the Holy Spirit guide us with wisdom and peace, and may Our Lady of Perpetual Help watch over our parish and lead us always to her Son. Daily Scripture Readings A great way to learn the Bible and incorporate it into your prayer is to set aside some time each day to reflect on the Scripture readings that are assigned to the daily liturgy. A simple way to do this is to go to the site https:// bible.usccb.org. This service is also available in Spanish at https://bible.usccb.org/es.
Once at the site, you have several options. You can click on the readings for the day and read the texts yourself. There is also a tab for the daily reading podcast in which those Scriptures are verbally proclaimed. Finally, there is a tab for a video, usually about two and a half minutes in length, which presents a variety of speakers offering brief reflections on the meaning of those Scriptures.
